MDGs-Media for Development Goals

‘MDGs-Media for Development Goals’ is a two-year EU-funded project of the polish organization ‘Salesian Missionary Voluntary Service’ – Youth for the World of Krakow, jointly being implemented with the Cypriot organization ‘Future Worlds Center’ and the Czech organization ‘Educon’, along with local partners from Italy, Kenya and Peru.
The project aims to raise awareness among young people about the Millennium Development Goals, the interdependence between the EU and developing countries, and the situation of people in the Global South, by engaging young citizens in the preparation and dissemination of materials relating to global Development issues.
MDGs have been signed by 189 countries belonging to the United Nations General Assembly including Poland, Czech Republic and Cyprus, and only five years have remained until the deadline set for their achievement. By involving young people in the media and the transfer of knowledge in the field of development education, we want in an appealing way to share knowledge, experiences and build awareness among the young generation about global development issues.
Main activities of the project include: a) the selection of 16 youth leaders and the implementation of three progressive media trainings in Italy, Kenya, Peru and Poland so that they these young people are equipped with the skills needed to conduct a media program in schools for the next school year 2010/2011.
b) the implementation of a media program in schools for students aged 15-18, intended to provide students with skills and knowledge around the MDGs and their representations through the media, as well as with the technical capacity for the production of their own videos and audios about the MDGs. Youth volunteers who will act as trainers, will also be expected to expand the circle of local structure school-radio.
c) The implementation of a media campaign with the active participation of youth leaders and students. Students are expected to promote the materials that they will prepare to the media and other stakeholders in order for them to raise awareness about the MDGs in Poland, Czech Republic and Cyprus.
During the project duration, more actions will be taken including developments in the Global Education Week, the implementation of a Summer media camp, the establishment of a platform of e-learning course and a book about media development education in Poland, the channel on youtube with videos on education development and many more.
All activities concerning the implementation of the project will be reported live on the website www.youth4world.com since September 2010.
